OSHA states that reporting rule has been effective

Following the implementation of the rule from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration that requires employers to report severe injuries and amputations to the agency within 24 hours, the agency reports that it has been a big success. The rule took effect on Jan. 1, 2015, and it requires employers in Massachusetts and around the country to report any eye losses, amputations or injuries requiring hospitalization.

OSHA reports that 2,644 amputations and 7,636 hospitalizations were reported during the first year of the new rule. The manufacturing industry reported the highest number of hospitalizations and amputations at 26 percent and 57 percent, respectively. The construction industry reported the second highest number in both categories, accounting for 19 percent of the hospitalizations and 10 percent of the amputations.
