Some common causes of slip and fall accidents

On Behalf of Ellis Law Offices LLP | Feb 13, 2017 | Slip And Fall

No matter how hard you try, you can’t watch every step you take. For this reason, there could come a time when you’re injured in an indoor slip and fall accident.

Knowing the most common causes of these accidents can go a long way in helping you avoid trouble. Here are a few to keep in mind:

— Wet flooring. An example of this would be if a property owner cleans the floors but doesn’t provide signage notifying visitors.

— Using an excessive amount of floor polish or wax.

— Failing to use barriers to prevent people from walking on floors that are dangerous for any reason.

— Stairs that have not been maintained, such as those with worn down steps or carpet that is curling.

— A missing or broken handrail.

Along with the above, elevator and escalator accidents can also be dangerous. For example, an escalator that jerks could cause a person to slip and fall as they are entering or exiting the machinery.

Property owners are responsible for maintaining their property with the idea of preventing accidents. This includes everyone from commercial building owners to grocery stores and shopping malls.

If you’re injured in an indoor slip and fall accident, don’t attempt to move. Instead, call for immediate medical assistance. From there, once you’ve been treated, do your best to learn more about the accident and why you became a victim.

In some cases, people find that their slip and fall accident was caused by the negligence of a property owner. This may mean that you can take action toward receiving compensation for your injuries.
