According to a report from Aon Global Risk Consulting, there are many risks that health care providers in Massachusetts and around the country will face in 2017. Workplace violence, an aging workforce and issues related to handling patients could all play a role in workers’ compensation claims in the future. The report analyzed data from 1,600 hospitals and other health care facilities throughout the country to come to its conclusions.
Of those who took part in the report, 91 percent said that they had been involved in or otherwise had an experience with workplace violence during the past three years. While this may be alarming to some, most respondents said that they were ready to deal with it as 81 percent said that they had a formal workplace violence program. Workplaces also benefited from having safe patient handling protocols in place. They reduced instances of worker injury by 95 percent while spending only $6,000 per claim.
