As a worker, regardless of your responsibilities, you should realize one thing to be true: You could be injured at any time. While some occupations are more dangerous than others, you should always know which risks lurk around the corner.

Here is a short list of some of the most common workplace injuries:

— Slip and fall. This could happen for a number of reasons, such as slippery floors in an office building.

— Fall to a lower level. This occurs when a person is working at height, such as on a ladder or roof.

— Struck by an object. Maybe an object falls from a shelf. Or maybe it falls off the roof of a building that is under construction. Either way, if it strikes a person, it can cause serious injury.

— Repetitive motion. This happens over the course of many months or longer. For instance, typing, day after day, could cause carpal tunnel syndrome.

— Assaults. As unfortunate as it may be, assault in the workplace remains a major issue. When one person attacks another, there is no way of knowing what injuries will occur.

Massachusetts workers need to be familiar with these common workplace injuries, among others. Furthermore, employers must do their part in keeping its workforce safe at all times.

If you are injured in a workplace accident, don’t hesitate to seek medical attention. You also want to report the accident as soon as possible. Neglecting to do so could lead to a situation in which your company attempts to blame the injury on something that happened outside of work.
