Construction site safety and common violations

On Behalf of | Oct 18, 2016 | Workers' Compensation

Massachusetts construction workers need to be consistently alert on a job site because of the many types of hazards faced in such an environment. Moving equipment, toxic materials and heights can be some of the greatest risks for a construction crew. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is tasked with the oversight of various industries, but construction garners a great deal of attention because it represents a large portion of workplace deaths. Statistics indicate that one of every five work-related fatalities in 2014 occurred on construction sites.

Over time, the areas of safety violations and serious incidents have remained rather consistent. Injuries and fatal accidents related to fall protection violations are the most common. Additional violations that are significant in number include problems with ladders and inadequate protection of the eyes, face, and head. Insufficient worker training is another serious shortcoming in the construction sector.
